By the time they realize how bad it’s become, Dean’s halfway to legally blind. The costs for the examination and the glasses are through the roof, and even the stolen credit cards can’t pay the whole amount. Together, they each get quick part-time jobs in the town, and after about five weeks, they’ve gathered enough to pay up.

Dean’s not in the office five minutes before he emerges again through the glass doors, two rectangles around his eyes and a big smile on his face. He drops into the passenger seat with a laugh. “I can see things, Sam!”

Sam laughs along and studies him. Glasses don’t suit people like Dean. They suit people who sit alone and like to study, people who live vicariously through characters in novels, people like Sam. The brightness of Dean’s eyes seems dulled, the shape of them lost, but Dean is looking, eyes searching and searching and searching his surroundings, as though it’s his first time seeing them at all. 

That glee and childish satisfaction - that’s what does it. With the motor still running, Sam’s got Dean crowded up against his door, one leg thrown over his lap and his mouth running circles around his neck and mouth. As he rips the buttons off Dean’s shirt, he says breathlessly, “You can finally see me, watch me do things to you, watch yourself do them back -“

Dean chuckles, head thrown back, and then runs one finger down Sam’s face. With his free hand he removes the glasses and throws them in the back seat. “Sam, I always see you.”
